Leslie & Taylor found me via another wedding I shot a few years ago in Birmingham, Alabama. Taylor was one of the groomsmen in Rebecca & Charles’ wedding so he knew how I worked. I was excited when they wanted to set up a meeting with me to talk about their wedding! I am in Nashville, TN so we set up a FaceTime meeting since they live near Atlanta, GA. We planned an engagement session and their wedding plans over webcam/emails. I enjoy shooting out of state weddings because it allows me to take photos in places I have never been. Although I am primarily a Nashville wedding photographer I love to travel!

The Wedding – Saturday, July 12, 2014

We began their wedding pictures at noon at Leslie’s parents home. This is where Leslie and her bridesmaids were getting their hair and makeup beautified. Their makeup and hair artist was Jenn Humphries Makeup and she was excellent. When I walked in I noticed she had already started and had them in front of a big window with great lighting. Usually I have to beg the makeup/hair artists to move away from the ugly tungsten light or I am waiting on them to get started. I can’t speak for Leslie and the ladies but I highly recommend her as a photographer.

Wonderful wedding details

The first photos I usually take are the detail shots. These are shots of the rings, shoes, dress, and anything the bride is going to put on that has a special meaning. The foyer of Leslie’s parents was perfect to do a shot of all the dresses hanging up. I have to give my wife Jamie the credit for that photo though. We took the ring and shoe shots in the back yard. At first I just took a few shots on the back porch but then I looked in the back yard and there it was in all its glory! An old wooden picnic table! It was the perfect texture and color to do the ring and shoe photos on.

Final Touches

When I walked back in the house I heard Jamie and my 2nd photographer (Nicole) laughing. They were showing a picture to Leslie that they had shot. I guess the flower girl had some wedding themed Barbies so Jamie and Nicole posed them like we normally pose the bride and groom. It was pretty funny. Once everyones hair and makeup was complete we took a photo of Leslie and her bridesmaids with their neat monogramed shirts on. After the final hair and makeup were completed we headed over to the church and took photos of the ladies helping Leslie get in her dress.

First Look

We did a first look at the church in the chapel. It was pretty dark in there but the photos turned out great. I enjoy doing first looks because I feel like it is a special moment for the bride and groom to see each for the first time without a lot of people watching. It gives them a time to relax for a bit and take the moment in together. It also makes for some great photos. If you are considering a first look I highly recommend it. I wish I had a first look at my wedding.
